2018 Triennial Code Adoption Cycle
In May 2018 the California Building Standards Commission received proposed code changes from state agencies given authority in law to adopt or propose for adoption regulations in the California Building Standards Code, California Code of Regulations, Title 24. The proposed code change submittals and the phases of the 2018 code adoption cycle can be found on the Rulemaking Activities webpage. These code changes will result in the 2019 edition of Title 24, effective January 1, 2020.

AB 1732: Single-user restrooms (Chapter 818, Statutes of 2016)
CBSC has received calls concerning new signage requirements for the identification of single-user toilet facilities as all-gender toilet facilities in response to Assembly Bill 1732 (Chapter 818, Statutes of 2016). The Division of the State Architect (DSA) recently published Information Bulletin 17-01: Identification of Single-User Toilet Facilities as All-Gender, which provides information as an aid for compliance with new state law requirements. Additionally, DSA issued BU 17-01-01 Identification of Single-User Toilet Facilities as All-Gender: Frequently Asked Questions, which is a supplement to the original document and further answers common questions raised by facility managers and design professionals. Please note, for questions concerning specific occupancies affected, applicability or compliance, contact the local enforcement agency.
