Every three years (during its triennial cycle), the BSC reviews the newest model codes published by various independent code-developing bodies. When published, these models codes are sent to the BSC and the following state agencies that propose or adopt building standards:
- Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD)
- Office of the State Fire Marshal (SFM)
- Division of the State Architect (DSA)
- Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD)
- Department of Health Services (DHS)
- Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH)
- California Energy Commission (CEC)
- State Historical Building Safety Board
- Department of Food and Agriculture (AGR)
- Department of Water Resources (DWR)
- Corrections Standards Authority (CSA)
- California State Library (CSL)
- Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA)
These agencies and the public draft proposed changes to the model codes. Then, one or more of the BSC's Code Advisory Committees conducts public meetings in which they review the changes. After public discussion and further changes, the proposed amendments are published in a monograph. Finally, the BSC reviews the amendments and base model codes for possible approval. |
