The 2007 triennial edition of the California Code of Regulations, Title 24 (California Building Standards Code) applies to all occupancies that applied for a building permit on or after January 1, 2008, and remains in effect until the effective date of the 2010 triennial edition.
You can examine a copy of Title 24 for free at depository libraries located throughout the state. You can also purchase the codes from its publishers and at various bookstores that carry technical books. Periodically, the BSC publishes errata and supplements to Title 24, which are included in the purchase cost.
What's in Title 24? The 2007 triennial edition of CCR, Title 24 consists of the following 12 parts:
Part 1 - 2007 California Building Standards Administrative Code (PDF) (Note: PDF will open in a separate window, you might need to scroll down to see the beginning of the document) Contains administrative regulations of the California Building Standards Commission, and regulations of all state agencies that implement or enforce building standards.
The International Code Council (ICC) has permitted the California Building Standards Commission (CBSC) to make supplements for Parts 1, 2, 6, 8, 10, 11, and 12, available on the CBSC website. Part 2 - 2007 California Building Code Reflects major changes in building design and construction requirements relating to fire and life safety and structural safety. Volumes 1 and 2 contain complete regulations and general construction building standards of state adopting agencies.

Part 3 - 2007 California Electrical Code Contains electrical building standards of state adopting agencies. This Code is preassembled with the 2005 National Electrical Code of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Part 4 - 2007 California Mechanical Code Contains mechanical standards of state adopting agencies. Standards relate to the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of:
- Heating, ventilating, cooling, and refrigeration systems
- Incinerators
- Other heat-producing appliances
This Code is preassembled with the 2006 Uniform Mechanical Code of the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO).

Part 5 - 2007 California Plumbing Code Contains plumbing standards of state adopting agencies. This Code is preassembled with the 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code of the IAPMO.

Part 9 - 2007 California Fire Code Contains fire-safety-related building standards referenced in other parts of Title 24. This Code is preassembled with the 2006 International Fire Code by the International Code Council.
Part 10 - 2007 California Existing Building Code Contains amendments to the International Existing Building Code, Appendix Chapter 1, Seismic Strengthening Provisions for Unreinforced Masonry Bearing Wall Buildings, and references the 2006 International Existing Building Code by ICC.
Part 11 – Reserved for California Green Building Standards Code.
Part 12 - 2007 California Reference Standards Code (PDF) Contains minimum test standards required by the California Building Standards Code.
